By late summer a wasp or hornet nest can house several thousand insects. Approaching it without protection, hosing it or blocking it off triggers a collective defence: destroying it is a job for a professional.
Wearing a full protective suit, the technician injects an approved insecticide into the heart of the nest with a telescopic pole, which reaches most nests under roofs, in hedges or in roller-shutter boxes without scaffolding. Activity stops within hours, and the nest is taken down afterwards whenever it can be reached.

Yes, as long as you keep windows on the nest side closed and keep children and pets indoors for about an hour. Then avoid going near the nest until the next day.
